Field Technician - Role Description


The Field Technician is responsible for working all across the United States with our internal and external technician team and our customers to install, configure, test and troubleshoot technology systems including DIRECTV entertainment, wired and wireless networking equipment, IP video cameras, and telephone systems.  This role will involve working directly with customers to ensure that their technology needs are met their expectations of working with Groove are exceeded.


Some of the duties you'll perform


  • Install and maintain wired and wireless network; repair network outages and service issues

  • Identify and correct potential performance issues in the IP network system

  • Install, configure, test and optimize DIRECTV DRE and COM3000 systems

  • Install, configure and test IP video camera systems including cameras and NVRs

  • Train customer and staff on proper operation and basic troubleshooting of technology systems

  • Work with installation and service technicians; resolve escalated individual customer problems

  • Provide prompt response to technology issues; conduct preventive or proactive network repair outside of normal business hours when required

  • Ensure optimum network performance and maintain detailed documentation of all network elements

  • Assist other installation teams in the delivery of other technology systems include TV entertainment, video surveillance, and internet delivery, and energy management systems

  • Communicate with all other Groove teams early and often about the status of project delivery and any potential issues that could affect project delivery

  • Work requires weekend or evening work as well as frequent travel to site locations


Required Skills

  • Energetic and positive attitude

  • Resourceful technology problem-solving skills

  • Understanding and experience of RF distribution systems for TV signal

  • Understanding of IP networking and wireless and wired IP systems

  • Climb ladders and work on rooftops; safely work in an elevated position for extended periods of time

  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate hand and power tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels at Groove and our customers

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools in an elevated work environment.

  • Experience working with CAT5e/CAT6 and Fiber wiring and connectors

  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.

  • Have a passion for delivering the best customer experience for both internal and external customers

  • Be available for extensive travel across the U.S. via both flying and driving based on project location


Desired Skills

  • Knowledge and certification of DIRECTV DRE and COM3000 systems preferred

  • Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting DIRECTV L&I systems

  • Knowledge and certification in Ubiquity Unifi and AirMax WiFi equipment

  • Experience with routers, gateways, access points, managed switches, IP cameras preferred.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Climb ladders and work on rooftops; safely work in an elevated position for extended periods of time

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED

  • Must pass a motor vehicle background check

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the office in Holladay, UT


Groove will provide uniforms, tools, transportation and a meal per diem (when traveling).
