Meet Monterey
A Pup with a Heart as Warm as California Sunshine!
Meet Monterey! Monterey is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area. (See information below in the “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section.). Monterey journeyed cross country from Texas to our rescue in Spokane.
Born about February 19, 2024, adorable Monterey has tan and black markings, floppy ears, and an athlete’s physique. We guess she is a German Shepherd mix and will possibly be a medium to large adult dog.
Playful and eager, Monterey overflows with personality. She is a sassy, petite gal, currently about 30 lb., and built like a whippet.
She plays well with other canines and listens to cues from her fosters’ older, grumpier dogs.
Monterey has done well with cats and kids, too. While independent and happy to do her own thing most of the time, Monterey jumps at the opportunity to cuddle in bed or on the couch. Or if you crouch down, she will immediately snuggle right up to you in between your legs. An active puppy, Monterey enjoys (with equal gusto) digging, sleeping next to your head, using your pillow, frisbee, all toys, love nibbles, annoying older dogs, water, and car rides. She likes to defy gravity on a regular basis and will hop around or just shoot straight up in the air randomly. Monterey may take a few minutes to release her inner social butterfly with new people (though winning her over with food rapidly speeds up the process), and she will be happy to shower you with kisses.
Monterey is working on her skills. She will spend several hours at a time quietly in her crate, can be left alone, and sleeps through the night. Monterey is almost potty trained, and she has learned how to use the dog door. She has attended a basic obedience class, and Monterey is eager to please with a treat reward (she’s a smart girl and figured that out quickly). She is also learning how to walk on a leash.
Monterey’s ideal home? Yours, probably! Monterey has a heart as warm as the California sun. She's kind, compassionate, and always ready to shower her family with love and affection. She would love a home with opportunities for walks or fetching in the backyard, toys for playing, and perhaps a dog sibling or a dog-savvy cat. With her puppy exuberance, she would probably do best with kids 5 and older. She would adore people to love who will love her in return and ensure she learns the skills that will make her a well-balanced and happy dog.

What is Path of Hope Rescue’s Adoption Process?
Our adoption process takes on average 7-10 days.
1. Begin by completing the online application. EVERY application receives an email response from us (check your spam folder!).
2. Your personal Matchmaker will contact you, help you find your perfect pup match, and guide you through the process.
3. Meet your potential pup at the home of the foster family (the process may differ slightly for long distance adopters).
4. Bring your potential pup home for a no commitment In Home Trial. In Home Trials are a minimum of (2) nights for a puppy and one week for an adult. Your Matchmaker will check in with you during this time.
5. Sign the adoption paperwork and adopt your new family member!
Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue
• Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.
• Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs a year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.
• Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.
About Path of Hope Rescue
• At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.
• We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.
• Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.
